FIFA 18: How to make money fast and get a head start on Ultimate Team

FIFA 18: How to make money fast and get a head start on Ultimate Team ~ Football News Updates

Players will be able to buy and sell on FUT with the release of the web app (Picture: EA/FIFA 18)

There is little over a week until hordes of people across the globe will be coming down with mysterious illnesses that force them to call in sick from work, and that can only mean one thing: FIFA 18 is almost here!

But while the official release date is still a few days away, it is possible to start playing the game already – a full week before launch. And for Ultimate Team players, that means you can get a big head start on everyone else!

FUT WEB APP

The web app allows you to buy, sell, set your formation and other tasks (Picture: EA/FIFA 18)

On Thursday, the web app for this year’s iteration of FIFA was released. If you’re new to the concept, the web app functions much in the same way as the transfer market does, only it is infinitely easier to navigate – albeit prone to crashing when it is first launched.

When you first load up the web app, you will receive loyalty packs and starter packs, the number of which is decided on the number of FUT matches played in the previous edition of the game. You will also receive a daily gift, such as packs or coins, every day that you load up the app. That leads on to…

SELL, SELL, SELL

Unless you got Cristiano Ronaldo in your loyalty pack, start selling! (Picture: EA/FIFA 18)

Don’t bother trying to build a team at this stage. Unless you got lucky and received an elite player – we’re talking an 85 rating or higher – sell everything you got from your loyalty packs immediately to build up your coffers. Give them a one-hour listing and keep relisting until they sell.

It goes without saying that spending coins on packs at this stage is a bad idea. Also, hold off on getting rid of those useless, untradeable bronze players you got in the starter park (more on that later!) and save up any contracts for later.

Now it’s time to start reinvesting those funds…

FIND THE BARGAINS

Marcus Rashford and teammate Anthony Martial could be bargains this year (Picture: EA/FIFA 18)

The easiest – if mind-numbing – way to start turning over a profit is to scroll to the 59th minute and look for players who have been listed at a Buy It Now price well below their actual value. Of course, a lot of people will be doing the same thing so you need to be extremely quick to snaffle them up. No sooner have you bought them, list them again. Trade, trade, trade is the key.

Every year there are players who can be picked up relatively cheap, but explode in value when the game is released officially. We can’t look past two Manchester United players: The rapid duo of Marcus Rashford (79-rated overall, 92 pace) and Anthony Martial (82-rated overall, 91 pace). Buy them now, sell them come release day.

PICK A LEAGUE YOU’RE FAMILIAR WITH

To narrow your search, try and stick with one league. Get to know everything about it: Who’s selling well? Who can you make money on? Which kits are proving popular? Remember, any popular players now will be infinitely more in-demand when the full game is released, while you will find it much easier to spot bargains and money-makers if you narrow your focus to one league.

FIVE STAR SKILLERS

Paul Pogba is the highest rated Premier League player with 5* skills (Picture: EA/FIFA 18)

Everyone loves a player with an armoury of tricks and skills. Paul Pogba, for example, is the highest-rated player with 5* skills in the Premier League, and he’ll cost a hell of a lot as a result. But there are other options to look at.

Yannick Bolasie will cost far less, but his pace (87) will make him in-demand – as he was at the start of last year’s game. The slightly slower Sofiane Boufal is another option. In other leagues, silver Brazilian Elton could attract a lot of attention given how many people like to make Brazilian skill teams, while Dortmund summer signing Andriy Yarmolenko could be a money-maker too.

BUY BEASTS

Arsenal star Sead Kolasinac could be a mainstay of Premier League FUT sides (Picture: EA/FIFA 18)

So-called ‘beasts’ will always be in-demand on FIFA; players who possess ridiculous strength and physicality, and often pace too. There are three that stand-out in the Premier League, all of whom should be relatively inexpensive.

New Arsenal left-back Sead Kolasinac (80-rated overall, 89 physicality) and Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini (79-rated overall, 89 physicality) rank joint sixth in the entire game for physicality. Tottenham’s Victor Wanyama (82-rated, 91 physicality) comes in at second.

FIND OVERPOWERED PLAYERS

There are some players who perform well above their rating. Take Jack Butland last year, the scourge of many attackers and probably the best Premier League keeper despite his 82 rating. N’Golo Kante, similarly, quadrupled in price at the start of FIFA 17. It’s difficult to know which players will be OP without playing the game though, which leads us on to…

EA ACCESS

FIFA 18: How to make money fast and get a head start on Ultimate Team

The Icon Edition of the game gives three days early access (Picture: EA/FIFA 18)

The launch window for EA Access (a monthly subscription service for Xbox* that costs £3.99 a month) is set for Thursday, which grants you 10 hours of access to FIFA 18 before its official release date. That is a huge advantage in Ultimate Team, allowing players to buy and use FIFA points, and thus packs, something which is unavailable to those only using the web app.

*If you’re on PS4, the Icon Edition of the game – available on all platforms – comes out three days early, on September 26.

In order to avoid eating into your limited time, it is probably best to do most housekeeping (like making your starter squad, picking a team name) and trading on the web app, with your Access reserved for playing FUT games.

COIN BONUSES

Completing a series of fairly basic tasks will give rewards (Picture: EA/FIFA 18)

First thing’s first, head over to the EA FC Catalogue and buy every reward and bonus you can find. Start with the 1,000 coin per match boosts, then extra transfer list space, and anything you can sell on the transfer market (such as kits and badges). You can also complete starter objectives which reward coins and the like.

START PLAYING GAMES

You can now challenge the FUT squads of professional players and celebs (Picture: EA/FIFA 18)

Online/offline drafts, depending on your skill level, represent the fastest way to make cash, though it will cost 300 FIFA points. The new squad battles could also be a money maker. Equipped with the 1,000 coin bonus, FUT tournaments and leagues will also reap rewards and you can even play those with a squad made up of the untradeable bronze players mentioned at the start of the guide (and don’t use fitness or healing cards on them, just rotate).

Remember to reinvest any money you make on the transfer market, constantly chasing profit, but do so via the web app, NOT your limited EA Access. When the game comes out, you can make a cheap overpowered team of gold players and start cleaning up online, and we’ve got you covered on that front too. Now go have fun!
